Beginning as a minor character, Fonzi received top billing during the end of the show’s run. During his run in Happy Days, Winkler also appeared in a couple of movies. After the show ended, Winkler focused on producing and directing before returning to acting, appearing in movies such as appearing in four Adam Sandler films. He also had a recurring role in Fox’s sitcom Arrested Development. Winkler is also credited for his involvement in the coining of the phrase “jump the shark”, something he did as Fonzie in Happy Days, and again in Arrested Development.
